This guide will show you step by step how to send MIDI to TH-U Slate when inserted in a DAW. In particular we will focus on 6 DAWs:
Logic Pro X
Other DAWs send the MIDI to the virtual instruments only and not to the effect plugins.
You'll be creating an Audio track in which we open the Audio plugin we want to control with MIDI.
We'll then create a MIDI track as well to route the MIDI messages from the MIDI input to the plugin.
Right click the parameter you'd like to control via your MIDI controller and select "Learn MIDI for current preset"
If you get this message after following the steps specific to your DAW below, your MIDI controller is not set up correctly in your DAW
Insert 2 tracks
Right click and select “insert new track”
Load the plugin on the first track.
Create another track with input control on MIDI and select your MIDI interface.
On the Audio track click on the “Route” button, a new window will be opened.
In that window click on the “Receives” panel and select the second track.
Enable “Record monitoring” on both the tracks.
Arm the record on the second track as showed in the following image.
You should now be able to control TH-U Slate Edition's parameters with your MIDI Controllers
Insert an audio track
Right click and select “Insert Audio Track”.
Insert a MIDI track.
Instantiate TH-U Slate onto the Audio Track
On the top of the plugin window you'll can see "VST3" Click on that button and select on “enable MIDI input”.
Now open the Sonar preferences panel by selecting the Edit menu -> Preferences…
In Preferences panel select MIDI -> Devices and check the MIDI interface you want to use, in this example “MPK Mini MK II”.
Check the input/output settings of the tracks: the MIDI track should have as input your MIDI interface and as output TH3 (or any other plugin you choose to use) as shown in the picture below.
Create an Audio track and a MIDI track in Pro Tools using the New Track Dialogue:
Load TH-U Slate Edition on the Audio Track
The MIDI track should have as the input as your MIDI interface and the output as TH-U Slate Edition
Create an Audio track
Create a MIDI track
Insert TH-U Slate Edition on your Audio Track
Due to a limitation on the VST3 protocol into Cubase, in order to send MIDI to a plugin we need to open the VST2 version.
Set the MIDI input of your MIDI track to your MIDI controller and the output to the desired TH-U Slate Edition insert.
Activate the Monitor setting on both the MIDI and the Audio tracks.
Create an Audio track and a MIDI track
Insert TH-U on the Audio Track
Set the MIDI input of your MIDI track to your MIDI controller and the output to the Audio Track that TH-U Slate Edition is inserted on, then arm your MIDI track for recording
Logic Pro X
Add a blank Software Instrument track and an Audio Track
Click on the Instrument button like showed in the images and select TH-U Slate Edition
In the Side Chain menu of the plugin window select the Input to which you have connected the instrument that you want to precess in real time.
